Mad Men, debuted in 2007 and now has a huge cult following. It showcases the lives of a group of Madison Avenue ad agency men and the women who love them. Although the story lines draw you in every Sunday, what we’re all watching for are the ultra cool retro fashions of the 1960s.

Joan Holloway, the sassy head secretary of SterlingCooper, is known for her super tight form fitting dresses showing off a sexy silhouette. Every time she struts down the office corridor, the heads of men (and women!) turn in awe. The 1960s were a time of tight corsets and exaggerated bra cups to emphasize a woman’s natural shape; and Joan always gets it right.

Betty Draper, however, shows us the flipside. She graces the screen in beautiful A-line taffeta dresses and full skirts with cinched in waists. Often pairing these with tight cashmere or mohair cardigans, she is reminiscent of Old Hollywood’s Grace Kelly or Elizabeth Taylor.

Of course the fashion world has taken notice of Mad Men style; Michael Kors even sent his models down the Fall ’08 runway in Mad Men inspired fashions. And Banana Republic partnered with AMC to debut an entire Mad Men collection. To replicate Betty’s look, try a full skirt that hits just on the knees and make sure it is all about the volume! A fitted cardigan or tee will compliment it best. And to achieve that tiny waist, add a chic wide or even skinny belt. Joan’s look is not for the weak of heart but can be copied easily. A form fitting sheath dress or pencil skirt that hugs your curves in all the right places will instantly give you the confidence to wiggle down the corridor of your own office.
