Don’t get me wrong, I love a high heel stiletto boot just as much as the next girl, but with a 1 year old baby on my hip, it’s far from practical. Flat boots are so comfortable and can be worn with your favorite jeans tucked in, or with a dress for a more casual look. And there are lots of different kinds to choose from; below are three popular styles: riding boot, a cozy knit, and suede over the knee- for prices high and low.

If you get a riding boot in a basic color and style, it will last you for seasons to come. This two-tone boot by Ralph Lauren (top boot) is a classic and will be a staple in your fall/winter wardrobe. But with that $669 price tag, you may want to opt for the pair by Charlotte Russe (bottom boot) for only $35. The main difference: The Ralph Lauren boots are made with “richly supple calfskin” while the Charlotte Russe pair is faux leather-but they are almost identical.

You can’t get any more comfy and cozy than flat knit boots. The “Ugg Women’s Classic Cardy” (top boot) is $140 at uggaustralia.com. I found a very similar pair at Old Navy (bottom boot) for only $34. The main difference: the Uggs feature a soft foam insole covered in genuine sheepskin. But it's such a huge difference in price and at first glance no is the wiser.

The over-the-knee boot is probably the hottest style this season.  Worn all the way up or folded down at the knee, they're really versatile. These suede “Air Sarafina” boots are by Cole Haan (top boot) and priced at $298 at colehaan.com. They are a beautiful pair of boots but way out of my frugal price range. Chinese Laundry (bottom boot) has a very similar style at chineselaundry.com, the “Tahoe” for only $90 also available in Black.
